What is Marathon Couples Therapy?

Marathon or Intensive Couples Therapy is a powerful alternative to traditional weekly therapy, designed to accelerate progress by immersing couples in a process of healing and reconnection. It gives you the time and space to fully focus on your relationship, helping you work through stuck patterns or a crisis in a matter of days, and create momentum that might otherwise take months to build.

Create real, meaningful change.

When you’ve been stuck in the same patterns for a long time, it can start to feel like nothing will actually change. This format allows us to move beyond surface level conversations and get to the root of what’s keeping you stuck. In just a few days, we can begin to untangle deeper hurts and start shifting the patterns that have felt so hard to break.

Stay fully engaged in the process.

In weekly therapy, it’s easy to lose momentum or fall back into old dynamics between sessions. Here, we stay with the work long enough to move through the hard parts, not avoid them. Even when things feel tense or overwhelming, you’re supported in working through it together instead of pressing pause.

Reconnect with intention.

When communication has broken down, it’s easy to feel distant, misunderstood, or alone in the relationship. This immersive experience creates space to slow down, really hear each other, and begin rebuilding connection and trust, so you can move forward with more clarity, care, and intention.

In just a few days you’ll leave with…

  • greater clarity,

  • a deeper understanding of what’s really happening beneath the surface, and

  • a renewed sense of direction for your relationship.

  • You feel stuck or caught in the same communication patterns. What you’ve been doing isn’t working, and you’re ready for something different.

  • You’re willing to be honest and do the work. You want things to change and are open to looking at your role in the relationship.

  • You face logistical constraints like demanding jobs, frequent travel, or childcare challenges.

  • You are traveling to San Diego, CA for therapy or prefer to stay in a hotel while you do intense work.

It may not be for you if….

  • One or both partners are unwilling to participate or engage in therapy as they have decided to leave.

  • There is an undisclosed or current affair. If one or both partners are not willing to end outside involvement, this work will not be effective.

  • There is abuse in the relationship, with a  concern for safety, violence, threats, or fear of harm.

  • One of you has an active alcohol and/or drug addiction that is not being addressed by a recovery program.

  • There are active suicidal or homicidal concerns. If safety is at risk, individual support and stabilization are the priority.
